The Triceratops Poetry Project is founded on three certainties: graduate students can teach poetry (even if they don’t call themselves poets), third graders can write poetry (even if they don’t call themselves poets—yet), and teaching and writing poetry is a surprisingly simple, incredibly rewarding way to participate in Willow Springs magazine! We send Willow Springs students into third grade classrooms to help these elementary schoolers create tiny chapbooks of their own. Editors will travel to third grade classrooms for 1 hour for four weeks, get experience in lesson planning and teaching, and leave knowing that they’ve helped children unleash some creativity. Elementary schoolers will get a valuable poetry learning experience of a lifetime and leave with their own book of poems. Some examples of previous work are to the side.
